I would like to think that you are joking. The switch with all the green/x wires to it is the windshield wiper switch. Those wires are also much smaller that the correct white and yellow ones.

Put it back the way it was and find the switch with 4 wires to it: large white/black, large white, large yellow, small red/yellow

That is the headlight high/low switch. Use the yellow and the white, just like you were told.
