I finally got around to checking this second battery isolator.... If it is the same thing I had in my 71 dodge van, it works great. So good, that when I upgraded (lol) to a 74 Dodge sportsmobile I spliced it into its wiring system along with the 2nd battery. Very simple. Are you sure it can be used on a vanagon?? I seem to recall seeing them in JCWhitless and they were specifically excluded(Volkswagen). > It's about time someone invented this Funny thing is, I bought the old 71 dodge about 4 years ago from an old guy that couldn't shift it anymore. He had camperized it fairly well (Maybe the reason I became interested in the Westfalia solution). I estimate he installed this diode type isolator in about 1980. He could have installed it later too. He used it mainly to run a 12 volt fridge that looked to be 1980's vintage. Price is $60, but the consolation is that you can use any old 12volt > switchmode PS without worrying about the backflow problem. > > -- Gnarlie > > |
