What year is the 2.5RS? The later model SOHC version (which first became available in the RS in 1999)is preferable to the earlier DOHC version. Either one is difficult to get smog approved in California...but if you don't live there....not a problem. You will have to make sure your friend is aware that he will have to replace the wiring harness from the engine to the ECU, two major parts, which involves R&R of the center console, dashboard, heater/AC unit to get it out. Two major parts to the harness. One section goes through the firewall and another section runs along the inside of driver's side fender. There' s good article on the WRX to RS swap your friend is contemplating, including removing the harness from the doner WRX in the most recent issue of Sport Compact magazine.
