well, I was travelling this weekend, so I went to look at the Gold Vanagon Westy in Cleveland yesterday-

Here's what I found..

the owner is a nice older gentleman, who bought it new. HE drove it until it failed etesting, and then when investigated, said it may need a new injector, or have a dead cylinder... it has a dead cylinder- #1 has no more than 40psi. It did start, but it will need a complete exhaust system, and ran very poorly. (probably due to the low compression) the tags on the van exprired in 00.. probably was parked since late 99 or early 00. all 4 tires are dead. the interior will need a THOROUGH cleaning, and the poptop canvas is rotted pretty bad. the brakes will need a complete going through. it was hard to tell if it leaked coolant, but the bottle was full. 106k, automatic. no stove or sink. Sliding door doesn't work very well. Rsut in the usual areas, esp in the pass ft footwell, and seams in the rear. Drivers seat worn, but serviceable. all and all, a pretty hefty project. saveable, for sure, but I'd plan on spending at least 2k to get it completely roadworthy, (if you did the work yourself)

So, my search for a Vanagon continues...

Percy- Buffalo
