I got rid of a similar noise by simply repositioning the cable. I had the instrument unit in and out a couple of times and apparently the cable didn't like the angle it ended up in. I took the cover off and adjusted it from time to time and eventually found a quite angle. Your problem may not be that simple but start with the easiest solution.
