I'd say it depends on how well I know the road and the potential to hit an unseen dip at high speed. On those roads I know well, I like to go 45-50 - it really is smoother, assuming the washboards are consistent. Guess it's not the most prudent thing, but hey, I'm young ;) On the other hand, driving the baja road south of puertocitos, I was mostly going 5 - 10 mph, because there were some pretty significant dips that you can't slow down for. But that's not usually the case on much of the roads in this country. Cheers, Jeff K. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Gerald Masar So what's the best way to drive on washboards? Slow and easy on the Vanagon, or fast and furious and shake the s*** out of the vehicle? Or something in between? I drove very slowly since I was not in a hurry and there was no one behind pushing me. On the other hand, walking just outside the campground in the evening, I watched a J**p Chickoree come in at about 50 MPH, trailing a huge cloud of dust. |
