Subject: New thermostat, differs in equilibrium temp- was,
86 Vanagon unstable idle
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Two questions for any takers:
(1) Does anyone know why the identical thermostat I just replaced would show
a slightly higher temp regestering on my gauge? The original was taking for
ever to allow warm up, so I replaced it with the same Behr 025 121 113 E
model (even has VW stamped on it) They look identical and both have 87
degrees c on them. The original would stay, when it finally came to temp,
at the lower end of the light, and now this new one stays in the middle to
upper end of the light surface when warm.
The new one definately allows quick warm up, and produces a lot more heat
from the exchangers in the van. Is this higher temp a problem or an
improvement? Thanks, Jeff
(2) I just bled the thermostat housing, and am wondering if I did it
correctly. I losened the set screw, and turned the knob on top,
counterclockwise, then coolant started comming out the set screw area, I
tightened the knob, and tightened the set screw, and it stopped. Is that
the correct proceedure?
Many thanks,
Jeff Hartman
