Did anyone see the front-page article in today's WSJ (Tuesday's that is) about how the Japanese have taken to camping in their vans to protest the high cost of hotels? It was pretty amazing - sounds like they are basically trying to reinvent the vanagon. They have listservs that list all the best parking lots to camp in, where to find bathrooms and showers, all sorts of modifications they make to their vehicle for more congenial camping (stoves, heaters, second battery for extra lights and the stereo, sound familiar?) I tried to find it on the web to send the URL, but the Wall Street Journal site requires a password. It's wsj.com, if you want to seek it out.
