Yes, I did this when I was prepping the motor to get installed in the Vanagon - it was quite plugged up!

Have you taken the intake manifold off and cleaned it? It's most likely plugged!

Day two of figuring out the lack of power problem with my 1998 AHU TDI in my Syncro TriStar.

First, I thought it may be the pedal switches. An email from Germany and looking at a working Jetta revealed that the answer is F=0, F36=0, F47=0 is the state of not pressing any of the brake and clutch pedals.

The vehicle works great until I give it some boost for a while, like say going up to about 90km/h - voila - the power is all gone and the MIL light comes on. VAG-COM reveals:

00575 Intake Manifold Pressure Control Difference 17-00

Before I got the intake manifold hose problem fix (they would pop off under boost) this always came up when they slipped off. Now the whole entire intake system is air tight and I have a boost gauge connected - goes right up to 14 to 15 PSI. The MIL will come on during a prolonged period (20 seconds) of full boost, like when you are going from 60 to 90 km/h in 4th gear.

Does ANYONE have any suggestions on what the problem is? Is there a limit to how far away the ECU can be from the intake manifold. I have about 150cm of 1/8" hose connecting it (connection is at driver side front of the engine bay - ECU is in the tail light area).

When the engine goes into to "limp home mode" you can hear a rapid clicking in the engine compartment. When you clear the codes, with the engine still running you can never clear the 00575 and the clicking doesn't stop until you turn the engine off, then no problem and you will never get 00575 until you go for a drive again.
