Sounds like restricted flow of fuel through the pump (pump is cavitating/air bound). Check the fuel filter, and see if there is junk coming from the gas tank clogging things up.

BTW, the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel, if the flow is restricted it will shorten the life of the pump considerably.
