Jeff,

I beleive it is Ken Lewis that has information on his web site about a simple capacitor fix for the AFM, as well as info on opening the unit, and re-setting the wiper arm on the variable resistor. There are other web sites with photographs of this procedure as well. I don't have Ken's web sddress right now, but if you look around on Vanagon.com, you may well find some resources and directions to his and oter pertinent sites.
