In my years in Alaska with the Public Health service I traveled a lot to bush communities. Several villages I went to were Eek, (yep, just like eeeek!!), Tuntituliak (shortened by everybody in the local area to "Tunt". We won't discuss what the rougher citizens called the short of it), Chicken (yep, just like as in fried chicken. Famous Alaska question - Where the h*ll is Chicken, Alaska), Cock-a- Knock (spelled Kokanok) and Ta-Tit-Lick (spelled Tatitlik) Needless to say there was a lot of laughter over coffee in the far north about where we all lived.
