A septuagenarian friend from the Yuper Pennisula of MI tells this tale:

How the Swedish family got a name like Ting... as in Samuel Ting the third. Two cousins, Olie Olsen and Olie Olsen were in line at Ellis Island. After hearing all of the questions from his cousin's interrogator, having stepped up in line, he promptly replied.... "Sam ting." It stuck! He swears this is true. These last three ARE TRUE, I SWEAR. One of my Company officers in Navy OCS.... Lt. Sink Another "" "" "" "" .... Lt. Pete Stiff A local Junior Hi teacher, Mr. Dick, named his first son.... Harry. Re: the second two... Sort of like J. Cash's "A Boy Named Sue". How in the world could a parent do that to a kid? :) -- Stephen Chillicothe OH #5 son's name is Spencer Peter Steele... had to put the P. in the middle... Wifie would NOT allow his first name to be Peter! At two years old, he answers quicker to and refers to himself as Pete.
