I've seen many Splitties and Bay busses with a memorable amount of rust and lots of duct (duck, if you prefer) tape over rusted out holes and around windshields. One fellow was creative enough to have a pristine cream colored 66 bus and he had painted rust on the most popular spots for rust. From 50 - 100 + feet away it looked like a real rust bucket but up close it was easy to see that a talented air brush artist had created an optical illusion.

its been popular here for Type 2 owners for years. especially in the Microbus/splitty circuits.. lowered splittys w/ cool rims.. not always because it looks "cool", moreso because they are just too damn broke for a paintjob...
