>Is the accepted genus for rosaria now Chicoreus?

Muricidae is one of those families in which there are genera which seem to intergrade. Chicoreus is one of these, but put simply, tallish spire/fusiform, with 3 varices per whorl. Varices bear discrete straight or recurved, long or short spines (largest at shoulder), open on the ventral surfaces, sometimes branched, with divided tips, not flattened or webbed.

C. rosarius is a typical Chicoreus, in the torrefactus/brunneus/steeriae group.

The genus intergrades with Chicomurex, Pterynotus... -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut
