How about adding a bit of cascade diswashing to the system while I am doing this. I have already tried the water up the radiator trick with very hot water. gary --- vw4x4@fyi.net wrote:

--------------------------------- If you are serious about this, hear is what to do. Empty the system by removing hte hose from the rad. Take a garden hose and insert it into the rad. in both directions, several time. Clean the rest of the system as much as possible. run with water for the next few weeks, flushing several times. This has never fauled for me. Eric

Eric, I am concerned that the previous owner dumped mudin the system to plug the head leak that is now fixed.Van runs with high speed fan on in a high temp rangebut will come down to normal if I turn the heater on.Kind of a drag having to turn the heater on when I amheading up to oregon near Redding. Any home madeflush remedies welcome, I am thinking orange peels andlemon. That citrus approach that prestone uses? garyDate: Tue, 13 Apr 2004 23:56:43 -0400From: Eric Zeno <vw4x4@FYI.NET>Subject: Re: uncle ron's radiator flushYou are wasting your money. If your rad. is only 3years old, fromnew, and you are running hot, its not the rad. Youwould have hadto dump pure mud in it, and at 3 years old, that wouldeasily flushout. What clogs a rad. is the constant heating andcooling in the rad.Vanagons don't cycle that fast, giving them longerlife. with clogging. There is lots of other reasons for a Vanagon to runhot.
