I think it you follow John's and others advice about going to a good local shop this really shouldn't be an issue. He should know what the local laws are.

that said I would agree as long as you don't over tint the front and two side windows you should be fine. The center and rear windows could be darker but I would check with a local installer myself before doing anything.
