Subject: AFM resistance test, was unstable idle
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

The mechanic who worked on my 86 vanagon finally returned my request for information and said that my AFM "passed a resistance test". He says that indicates that my AFM probably works, but.... from the vanagon.com traffic I have heard, the AFM (Is that the little in line cylindrical device near the air filter?) may not function properly because of some wiper arm problem? I probably have this all wrong.

This same mechanic said that he had concluded I do not need a new AFM, but need the little in-line circut that stablizes the current. Naturally, this is contrary to what I first understood from them.

I am slowly working my way through and cleaning all the grounds I have been alerted to, before going on to other diagnostic tips I have got from the list. (thank you) I thought someone out there may be able to tell me if this resistance test is a meaningful diagnostic indicator of the condition of my AFM?

Thanks, Jeff 86 Vanagon Juneau, Alaska
