Hey, Use a voltmeter to check the voltage output of the alt. If its not in the 14v range, there is a problem with the alt or volt regulator. If its good good, check again at the battery, where depending on the resistance in your wires, you should still get 13v or more. If its charging there, then there is a problem with your battery. If you are experiencing severe voltage drop, you need to find the culprit. I believe the wire goes directly from the alt to the battery. Z Vanagon Man <vgonman@MSN.COM> wrote: I am lucky. I started seeing my alternator and oxs light flicker on the way to my farm in WV<<town with an auto parts store. So, all was well, and i hoped to limp back the 600 miles to Charleston SC before the alternator just died..made it to Rock Hill SC and an advance auto when i lost power! Switched the alternator out, and lo and behold, no more flickering light, but still not charging. All wires hooked up for sure........only one odd thing, The new alternator had a plug in on the back for W terminal..........my old did not. And of course, Advance had to swap my pulley and fan so that it would work........ On way home it still did not charge.....battery kept getting low on power...........needed one jump and got in the driveway. with 11.0 volts............................. Any thoughts?
