The socket sounds like the infamous "Silver Socket" that much has been written about. It is a power receptable for plug-in accessories. Can be acquired (as I understand), from John Deere Tractor dealers - parts dept. AND through Harley motorcycle shops.....again, the parts department. Don't know about the mystery button you have.
