I see you're excited about your new Westy.
Your refrigerator will run about ten days on the 2.7 gallons of propane in
your tank.
The tanks are very durable and can be removed, sand blasted, painted (I
wouldn't recommend powder coating .. K A Boom???).
Most propane dealers are licensed to handle and deliver propane, I've never
had any dealer to have any problems filling my tank using the bleeder valve.
What you perceive as an automatic shut off is indeed an automatic pop-off
that keeps your regulator diaphragm in tact.
I'm thinking that all you need to do is add the bleeder valve that (When
open allows the fill and spews liquid product when properly topped off).
I think you just found two idiot Propane dealers.
Most CITY propane dealers won't sell less than 5 gallons or 20 pounds.
Try a country dealer and offer to fill your gas tank and buy some snacks
while you're there.
The last four propane fills on my Westy were free because the dealer didn't
'sell' less than 5 gallons and I made it worth his while by buying his
overpriced gasoline out from.
