Hello- This afternoon I suddenly noticed a loss of power in the power steering system. I pulled over, and found the v-belt had jumped off. It had a slight twist in it, but I was able to work it back on and drive away with power restored. It came off again in short order, about 30 miles later. I'm not a skilled mechanic, and the Bentley guide doesn't seem to mention the cable iteself, I assume this is common knowledge among mechanics. Is this (I hope) a simple matter of purchasing a new belt, and replacing it? Or is it a more complex prodecure involving disassembly of the PS pump? It was quit difficult to get the belt back on, is there a proper procedure I should know about to gain slack somehow? Or is it just a matter of popping the belt back onto the pulleys? Will this belt be simple to find at Napa, etc, or is it an exotic VW item? I'll be attempting to answer these questions myself this evening, but it would be great to hear from someone with experience. Thanks Rob Campbell 87 Westy, Seattle |
