Sean:

It's been a long time since I've screwed around with the exact same problem on my '81 so I'm a little hazy on the details, but if you completely remove the window regulator from the door you'll see that the slider (the roughly triangular piece that attaches to the horizontal steel channel on the glass with a pair of bolts) is attached to the vertical track with a rectangular white plastic piece that can't be seen with the regulator in the door. It's most likely this plastic piece is worn, causing the slider to come loose. There's no provision for replacing this piece since it's held in place with some sort of press-fit device.

I managed to come up with some sort of fix, though it took several tries, and I can't even remember what I did. Best "fix" is a new window regulator. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Young '81 Vanagon Lafayette, CA 94549 '82 Westfalia --------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sean Garrett" <SEAN.GARRETT@ASU.EDU> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 11:56 AM Subject: 1981 dropped window in door

OK, thank you everyone for those tips I got on my previous post. I got the panel off just fine. The window has the horizontal steel channel still attached to it. However it does not connect to the slider that moves up the vertical track. Seems to have broken off. I can lift it up and put it on but then falls off again. Appears to be missing some type of bolt or cap to hold it on the vertical track.

I looked at ETKA and it was not a very good diagram. It did not show a bolt or attachment device (cap) of some sort here. So I don't have to pull off the panel on my good door can anyone help out ???
