Joseph Fortino wrote: These old girls just love being on the road. I drove my 88 GL down the Alaska Highway a few years ago from Anchorage to Birmingham Alabama. 4500 miles in 7 days with just me driving. I was on the road at 6 am and quit at 8 pm. For 14 hours a day she just hummed right along. I never dawdled much. A few stops, like gas and fast food, and then on the road again. In Wyoming I cracked an exhaust pipe and things got a little noisier. Thank my stars the engine was in the back and not up front. it would have been noisy. The only trip stopping mechanical on the entire trip was 60 miles out of Birmingham the water pump failed. I had to have her trailers in to a garage for a new pump. Fixed the exhaust pipe then also. Never gave problems again until just before I sold it at 205,000 miles, the sliders went out and I had the tranny overhauled. Didn't really plan to sell it, but found an 88 GL by accident that I really liked so I got a new vehicel and sold the 85 GL.

They do like the road.

Regards,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
