There are screams, and there are screams!

If the belt tension is adjusted properly, and you turn to the stop
limits of steering, the pump will moan or "scream" slightly, but if it
does more than that then in all likelyhood you are hearing the screams
of a dying pump. Actually is will be a loud whine. BTDT.

Pump replacement is easy, albeit expensive. And, the system is self
bleeding, so that is a non-issue. Just fill the hydraulic tank, run the
engine, turn the steering wheel to the stops both ways several times,
top off the tank, and that shluld do it.
