strange thing.
I have an 86 wolfsburg with 168k 2.1 liter, a little head leak in cold
weather soon to be fixed, getting constant mileage of about 18mpg.
Was on an uphill climb in 2nd gear when power suddenly drops, engine
explodes loud with a massive bluish cloud of smoke. I'm thinking I'm in
for a different day.
Engine's running still, but rough. I pull over and shut it down. I
examine everything, nothing seems out of order. It restarts  and idles
smooth. I continue easy and listen. A mile later I'm at work, I look it
over during the day and drive home without incident.
I am looking at two possibilities
1. recent oil change (day before) I may have overfilled a little. But
this would have blown seals that leak continually. It does not. all
seals are still tight. Maybe pushed oil pass the rings into the cylinder. ?
2. Temp sensor on the thermostat housing for the injectors may be
failing causing a super rich surge of fuel. I plan to replace this, it
has been a while.
I still want to know, or have opinions on what may have happened.
