That is a condenser from an 85 Vanagon that had A/C. If you crush it with a rock just go get another one, very cheap. If you'll look around at the cars driving around out city streets you'll see that you've got three times the ground clearance that they do. If you're concerned about going off road and crushing it you just have to remember the last time you crushed your propane tank of your Westy. Mine is on the underside of a 1976 Porsche and I've straddled turn lane bumps, bounced in and out of steer driveways. I admit that I might be more subject to a hit than a Vanagon, I'm saying for me the risk is worth the extra cooling.
