Thanks to everybody who replied on-list and off-list. Lots of ideas and suggestions. The first one I tried (disconnecting the idle stabilizer control box/Hall unit) made no difference. Upon looking around for additional clues and trying (sans even an Owner's Manual, much less a shop manual) to figure out what things were what I noticed a blue plastic connector with two female contacts inside that was hanging loose over on the left side (facing forward) of the engine. It has two wires going into it: a white one and a blue/white one. After looking all over the place within the range (which wasn't much) of the wires a few times, I finally located a matching connector pretty well hidden down under the coolant reservoir. I put the two together, drove a short ways, and turned off the engine. Tried to start it and it fired right up. Yea!! I then drove it about 7 miles (home), parked it, and turned it off. Started right back up again, so apparently "problem solved." Now, can someone tell me what that connector is? Maybe it's something somebody suggested but I couldn't identify it merely by the terminology.

Norm
