The term upper lube was invented by Oil Additives manufacturers back in the 40's / 50's for oils with extra qualities to lube the valve stems and upper valve assemblies. There were also several 'kits' available called top end lube kits that either sprayed or dripped oil into valve covers. In addition there were kits that increased oil flow to rocker arms and special Teflon Seals (Perfect Circle) to improve upper engine lubrication. You're right about the MMO. It was right in there claiming to be an upper lube as well. I think MMO survived this 60+ years because it's a great lubricant for all kinds of things. I know I've dumped lots of it into automatic oilers on impact gun lines. lots more in oilers for automatic nailers and air powered drum pumps. The fact that the term upper lube is being used makes me think you're on an antiques car list.

Have any of you ever herd of the term upper lube? On another list I am on, they use the term to refer to lubrication being injected into the upper part of the cylinder by putting 2-cycle oil in the gas. Sounds a little like putting MMO in the gas. Thought I would bring up the question to see if anyone had any thoughts on the subject.
