When is an adapter plate a must have:

- 15 or 0 degree install - Automatic transmission - Syncro when you do not have a Diesel starter and Diesel Syncro fuel tank

Starting with a water cooled Vanagon will only reduce the need to install a radiator system / heating system. Boxer / wasserboxer transmission cases are the same.

OK, there is a detail I'd like to clear up, it seems those that know are tossing around the angle of the motor w/ and without the use of an adapter plate, but I am con-fu-sed.

15 degree =

51 degree =

You can bolt up an I4 to an air-cooled Vanagon trans-axle by:

You can make use of a water cooled but non diesel bus with this project by using (plate optional or required?):

My basic question break down into three area;

- When is the plate a must have?

- Which way = 15 degrees, which = 51 degrees?

- If I start with a Vanagon that has a water-cooled motor, wouldn't this reduce the parts needed to install a water cooled I4?

Thx for the discourse people.
