The sandwich adapter is the one you want. Unless you want to install a larger remote filter and the external oil cooler. When you unscrew your filter you'll be able to look up into the filter mount bracket and see the pressure relief valve that needs to be blocked off. (No it is not absolutely necessary to block it off, it can be the cause of only a portion of the oil going to the new external cooler though. Making you think you wasted your time installing the external cooler.) I've run the sandwich adapters on Type IV VW engines and Porsche and never had any problems other than getting the adapter on tight enough that it didn't move at oil filter changes.
