As some of you know, I had some questions a few days ago about my van and
its running problems after getting the engine back in. I figured out the
problems one at a time, with the help of a few list members (thanks) But
there was still one thing that I couldnt figure out. Every time I put the
pedal to the floor at slower speeds (it was fine on the freeway), it just
didnt respond very well, didnt seem like it was getting enough fuel or
something. Every time I tried to go uphill it would seem like it was about
to crap out, but if I just floored it, I could keep it going. I tried
adjusting the air flow meter, checked the timing, checked the plug wires,
replaced the cap & rotor, cleaned all the grounds, put premium Chevron gas
in the tank, checked for vacuum leaks, etc, etc. Today I decided to put in a
fuel pump that I grabbed at the junkyard over the weekend, just to see what
would happen. I drove it around the block, and what do ya know-it was fixed!
Now it responds very well, I can put the pedal to the floor and it really
moves. It runs better than ever. I guess that fuel pump was getting tired,
and maybe sitting for 6 weeks wasn't so good for it. I don't know. Who knows
how long the junkyard fuel pump was sitting there? Whatever, it's fixed now
and I couldn't be happier. Going on a little short trip this weekend.
