That kind of thing is more common than you'd think...

It turns out that when you're doing high-buck, small production run exotics the tooling costs for custom building things like tail lights get to be prohibitive. The trick becomes to reach into the parts bin and use something from another car in a way that isn't obvious.

I've heard many Ferrari tail lights are from a standard line of heavy truck parts.
