I use this fix all the time for backpacks (makes a bomber repair easy to remove and reinstall if necessary) as well as climbing gear/haulbags etc:

Makes the gear looked 'used' (less likely to be a target for a theif) and adds character too boot! :-)

Duct tape and two liter soda bottles make great bomber (nearly indestrctible) water bottles.
