Subject: Oil pressure reading off base?

My mechanic has told me that I need to replace/rebuild my '91 engine with 130k miles soon because the oil pressure is running at 27lbs at 2000 rpm hot, when 29 lbs is the minimum. In my research in the archives, his suggestion to replace/rebuild and his "minimum" pressure reading at 2000 rpm doesn't seem right. He's a mechanic that's well respected on the list, so I won't mention his name yet, since he's always done good work for me. Does his suggestion seem off base?

I suppose if the gaskets were leaking, I'd consider going through with it now, but there aren't any leaks (yet). I'd like to wait as long as possible, install an oil pressure gauge, save up some money, and get a nice rebuilt engine when I really need one. Thanks, John 91 Westy
