Subject: Obscure gaskets and seals, 1.9L wasserboxer
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hi,

I am reassembling my 1.9L engine out of my '84 westy and am looking for a few gaskets that did not come in my engine gasket set.

The first one is called, according to ETKA, the "oil thrower sealing washer". This goes on the pulley end of the crankshaft just outside of the #4 main bearing and the "oil thrower". I have my old one and it looks a lot like an o-ring but is somewhat squashed so that the cross section is not circular but more oval. Does anyone know if I can just use an o-ring here? If not, where can I get an "oil thrower sealing washer"?

The other one is the sealing washer for the pilot bearing in the flywheel end of the crankshaft. On Type-1 engines I have worked with, this was sort of a felt o-ring. Can I use a Type-1 pilot bearing sealing washer in this application?

Speaking of o-rings, are there special, oil proof, o-rings to use in automotive engine applications?

Thank for any info,

-Dyer Lytle in Tucson
