I have tried to start my West this night and he started like a charm. I
drove it for about 20 minutes and stopped the engine and it restarted
perfectly. I checked the resistance on the Temp II switch. before starting
(2160 ohms when it was cold) . I also checked it after driving for 20
minutes and the reading was 330 ohms. Every things seem to be according to
spec. I still do not understand why my Vanagon was so difficult to start
last Sunday ( 2 times I had difficulties to restart the engine when hot).
I called my mechanic to tell him this problem. He told me it was, may be,
because my defective ISCU (disconnect for 1 year). However before he
replaces the spark plugs, the distributor cap and the rotor, I was always
able to start without any problem in spite of my ISCU disconnected. I am
still looking for new ideas. Thank you for all the replies I had so far.

As some may recall, I had this exact problem just a week or so ago. In my
case, it wasn't the sensor that was bad but the connector had come loose.
See if there's a blue plastic connector with a couple of wires (one white,
the other white/blue) hanging loose over on the left side, probably around
the coolant reservoir. It'll probably look pretty clean on the inside like
it has just recently come loose -- mine did. The place where it goes is
right under the A/C compressor (hard to see). Once mine was reconnected,
the starting problem instantly vanished.

Replace the Temp II (blue) temperature sensor in the thermostat
housing. It is causing the FI to flood the engine during warm starts.

start the engine. When I took it this morning no problem to start it from
cold. I drove for about 40 miles and stopped the van for 20 minutes. When I
tried to restart it, no way. The starter was working but the motor didn`t
want to fire. After many tries when the battery starting to died, I
succeeded to restart it. The motor was running great as usual. After that, I
drove for 10 miles and stopped for breakfest. The same story happened when I
tried to leave from the restaurant parking lot.
