I met a real nice lady today who selling her 85 westfalia, unfortunately it's having tranny troubles which raise some questions. Here's what I was told: van is 'locked' in neutral, however it will move if the clutch is let out. Shop where it's at says the tranny's bad, but it sounds like a throwout bearing/arm/clutch issue to me. Has anyone had something like this happen and can provide thoughts? She's selling this to get a more reliable car and it'd be nice for her to not get screwed. As far as the selling, she's had the van for quite awhile - first in SoCal, then Texas, now moving to Virginia Beach, VA last november. Says she's had it regularly serviced, whatever that means. No rust, except for a little at the base of the windshield. She's asking $3500 as it sits, but might be negotiable. I'll have a photo to send later tonight and might go by the shop tomorrow to see it in person. thanks, john |
