Tom,

I have looked inside several Vanagon tanks, and it is easy to see why they
clog up over time.  The answer is RUST.

The tanks rust because of water in the fuel.  Here in Europe, it is legal
for fuel to include up to 1% water.  Given the presence of oxygen in the air
above the fuel, that is more than enough water for rusting to start.
