Any recommendations for a great Vanagon (87 Weekender) in Southern CA? I wrote the list earlier about an oil spray problem and got various diagnosis. The one that seems most logical to me is a blown crankshaft seal which is leaking oil all over my clutch components. My local independent VW mechanic hasn't seen the van, but says that he can't do the job if this is indeed the problem. Why? I don't know. I was thinking about doing it myself, but if an experienced mechanic has reservations about it, then I think I would be better served by finding someone with experience (and confidence). I live in the Temecula/Murrieta area, but I'm not opposed to traveling to get a good result. Thank you for any input you can give.

What disc did you say was giving you problems?
