Larry,

I might have something for you down here in Sacramento. I just took in an '86 with a bad tranny. Seems to run fine, but I haven't been able to drive it due to the fact it only moves in reverse. It's an automatic so you'll need to swap your flywheel over and adjust the end play. Let me know if you're interested and we'll figure something out.

Cheers,

Jeff www.vanagonparts.com

Volks,

Some days you rule the road and some days the road rules you.

It pains me to say that today was the latter.

Looks like my engine is trashed.

A while back, after the failure of the third set of 2.2L pistons I reverted to stock 2.1L pistons.

Unfortunately, because of a questionable head, the result was low compression in the number one cylinder.

Then two days ago a significant amount of lifter noise started.

Today ..... it sounds like she is going to tear herself apart at the seems.

No power ... can't keep it running and need granny low to get over a speed bump.

I need to find a really cheap engine and get it installed for next to nothing ..... or I'm sad to say, the Roadhaus Roadtrip may be over.

Regrettably there just isn't enough cash left in the bucket to fund a proper new engine purchase and install.

Fortunately I made it to a friend's place in Oregon (Susan Dolvin's Westfalia Acres).

Will hang out here for a couple of days and try to figure out the next move.

All suggestions and creative solutions welcome.
