Subject:      bus depot exhaust rusting prematurely?

Hello list,
   Recently, i bought a whole exhaust system (1.9 wbx)
from Bus depot (last summer).  I have only put about
500 miles on the van since, and the exhaust is rusting
really bad. It has only seen a couple of wet days,
both being snow,(had to pull out the van to get to
work) but spent most of its time garaged.  Most of the
paint has since baked off the system, to be replaced
with rust. All of the paint is gone on the
header/collector pipe, and is now all rust. Most of
the parts i have gotten from bus depot have been top
notch, and i am really satisfied....Did i get a lemon,
or is this common?  what can be done to get rid of the
rust, in the realm of the home mechanic. (ie, i dont
have access to a sandblaster)  Any thoughts would be
much appreciated, as i would like to prolong having to
purchase another exhaust for quite a while.
