One issue I haven't seen mentioned (yet) is batteries.

When I travelled with my Westie and digital camera in 2001, I brought along
a 1.2 megapixel Olympus (remember, this was three years ago :-)... this
camera can work on a pair of AA batteries.

I brought along a charger (with a 12V adapter), and about 8 batteries, and
was able to keep my camera and mini flashlight fed with the same cells. On
the rare occasions when I used up all my charged batteries, I was able to
buy alkalines and keep on shooting.
