The needle bearing is in the end of the flywheel to hold the tail shaft of the manual transmission straight, it can be left in place if you install the flex drive for the automatic. Leave the shims in place you still need end play set for the flex drive, the same as the manual transmission flywheel. Don't remove the rear seal unless you want to replace it. Install the flex drive with the shims that you left in place and check the end play to make sure that it is set to .03-.05 thousants
