Ok, It might be a headleak BUT Iīd try not to worry ībout that right away ! You wrote that youīd just replaced the waterpump, whatīs the reason for doing so, was the Vanagon coughing water before that ?? If not the problem you have is most likely to be caused by air ! There are these looooong hoses and pipes, radiator away from the engine and big chance that you have an airbubble somewhere ! Additional heater under the back seat ? Another place to get air ! I havenīt got the Haynes so I donīt know how the procedure is described but according to the Haynes manual you raise the front at least 15 " over the rear , full heat on every heater and bleed the radiator - for a long time, not just a few drops , and the best is if the engine is really hot when you start ( donīt get burnt !) Iīve tried this and it worked for me - even after changing to the Volvo engine..... And if this doesnīt help, look for cracks in the expansion container or leaks from the lid ! BTW - did you replace the thermostat ? Many times remaining air in the system is caused by the fact that there are airbubbles under the thermostat, preventing water to get up and heat - open the thermostat ! You check this by squeezing or feeling the hoses leading to the thermostat housing once the engine is hot , you should be able to sesnce the heat or at least water running inside . There might also be a bleeding valve on top of the housing........

Start with this and if it doesnīt help weīll go on from there...
