If you write to the tourist information center or chamber of commerce of most states, they'll send you a map and a big bundle of tourism information. Some states even let you do this from a webpage, now. You have to plan ahead a few weeks, though, since they usually send the stuff bulk rate. I take advantage of this whenever I'm planning a multi-state trip.
