Well, I am 60 . I have been on the list for a long time. First it was all buses, then split to air-cooled and water-cooled, then the air-cooled split into type2 & vintage. My first car was a 1930 Austin in England. I nearly bought a 1948 beetle from a GI for ten pounds ($25.00 )! but did not because it had cable brakes. I worked at Ford of Europe with a series of Jaguars (2.4. 3.4. XK150 & XK150) before coming to the states.

In California I bought a 62 bus that was used for camping every other weekend camping in the Sierras etc.

I got back into VW's with my 1970 bus and then got a 63 singlecab. My daily driver is the 87 Vanagon that I got for the cross-country trip last year. My wife insisted on AC and I do agree that the Vanagon is a much better camper than the 70 bus. My 19 year old drives the 70 camper and I alternate between the 63 singlecab & Vanagon.

My daughter Clara has splitty heaven in Olympia, WA, where she has a 52 barndoor and about 5 other splitties. She is a frequent contributor to the vintage bus list.

Go to blueridgejan.com/samsbus and you can see our three generations of rear engined VW bus.
