Holy Carp!!! After readimg all the age posts and vast experience of list members I feel like a virgin in a lingerie store. I have owned one vw the one I got now. It is an 85 vanagon gl westfalia Canadian edition. I bought it three years ago for 700.00 Can. It needed a new rad(thankyou Frank and a new auto tranny. The PO had a used tranny already but never had time to install it. After I got it running I took it on a few camp outs and really liked it. I do alot of night catfish, carp and sturgeon fishing and the westy was beautiful for that. Last year I took the van to Temagami in northern Ontario and quickly found out why not many westies tow a boat. After coming back I decided to sell it and stick with my dodge vans and buy a pop up camper. However after pricing the campers(junk) and doing 6 months of research and budgeting, I decided to do the subaru conversion to a 2.2 litre. I am almost done but still have many mods to do to the camper before I am completley done. Are we ever completely done mod these. I have been a list member since I baught the van but was listed under a different name. I have owned a few honda civics, one ford ltd, toyota camry( best car I ever owned) about half a dozen dodge ram vans (courier) a coulpe gm and ford vans. A firefly, subaru and a half a dozen other vehicles not worth mentioning. I am 34 and hoping to make a few vw events in the next year so I can put some faces to the names I am graduate of the University of Guelph with a BSc in botany,. I also hold several trade certificates but realized after many years that what I love doing is driving(that is how I paid for school) I am again driving and hope to retire doing it. The westy will only be used for camping and traveling. My new car to arrive soon will be the new mercededes smart car. Fell in love with this car in Germany. May have a type 2 before the summer is done however. Patrick, Appin Ont, 85 Westy
