Actually we do have them - but for the same $2300 price, not more. http://busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=025100771VW

As many of you know, we also sell the AVP-rebuilt engines, which I have always highly recommended and are cheaper ($1749.95). So now you have a choice.

The advantages of the genuine one are...

1) No core deposit. This means you can keep your old engine for future rebuilding, and will not have to ship it back (so you save about $100 on shipping). 2) VW has been known in the past to use a lot of new parts in their remans. While there is no way of being sure, it would not surprise me if the rebuilt engines actually had new heads and/or other new internals rather than reground. 3) While the AVP engines take roughly 10 days to be built, the genuine one can ship sooner since it's already built and crated. 4) It's a genuine VW factory engine, which is very hard to come by these days (especially at this price).

The negatives? The VW rebuild is pricier than the AVP rebuild yet has a much shorter warranty. The importer (not us) backs it for 90 days, whereas AVP backs theirs for 12 months/12,000 miles (and has an exemplary record of standing behind them in my experience).

Which is the better choice? It's your call. Personally I chose the AVP engine when I needed one for my own Vanagon, and don't regret it. It's been a great engine. But there are plenty of people who simply like to go "factory" whenever possible, and there's nothing wrong with that either. At this price (much cheaper than before) it is a viable alternative.
