Thomas, It really is all about money here. If you got the money for clutch or brake alike when you replace the slave consider replacing any master that is over 5 years old. If you have been religious about changing your brake fluid every two or three years all the parts last a bit longer. IF YOU CHOOSE to replace just the slave be careful not to push the master too far forward, small short strokes are better than long strokes and remove the old fluid from the resevoir so that you are only pushing new fluid into the cylinder. To those radiator bleeders out there it is worth a note that the many, many procedures outline by the list often lack recognition of the pre 86 and post 86 system. What ever procedure that you use it is critical that the front bleeder be open(thermostat bleeder too but less important) and the heater valves be on when adding the coolant to a running engine. Pre 86 models have a whole diferent set of problems than post 86. I did not bleed my clutch line last summer because the

slave cylinder looked pretty corroded. So i figured

i would replace the slave this spring while I work

on the van brakes. A coworker / vanagonite mentioned

replacing the clutch master and slave as a pair.

Is this required / wise? I have no indications that the master

is in need of replacement.

Any tips on slave cylinder replacement / installation would be helpful too.

someone told me it helps to be left handed.
